YOU’RE GROUNDED! (Ephesians 3:17–19)

“You're Grounded.”

For most teenagers (and maybe for adults too), it’s a phrase that feels more like punishment than blessing.

One of our sons recently had a stressful “back-to-school” evening—math homework, distractions, and new school frustrations were flying.

After a few warnings, my wife finally pulled out the classic parent line: “If you don’t move to another room, then you are GROUNDED!”

Honestly, in the midst of his stress - she was totally calm.  We all just wanted him to go process his frustrations and stresses...but somewhere else.

He moved, but not happily.

That phrase stuck with me, though.

What does it really mean to be grounded?

I looked it up and found this:

“The concept of being grounded refers to a feeling of being stable, at ease, and consciously present… not easily influenced by others’ ideas or feelings. You feel more at peace with your authentic self.”

Dang!  That doesn’t sound like a punishment at all. That sounds like a gift.  In fact, sign me up!

The Apostle Paul used this exact word when he wrote:

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17–19)

Being grounded in the love of Christ gives us stability when life feels shaky. It centers us, focuses us, and gives us peace in the middle of stress.

So maybe being “grounded” isn’t just for kids and teenagers. Maybe it’s for all of us.

This week, may we put our feet on solid ground, remember His love that surpasses all knowledge, and let that grounding ripple out to our families and communities.

(And while your feet are grounded, make sure they’re wrapped in something ridiculously comfortable—like a pair of BibleSocks. 😉)

Have a beautiful day, my friends!
