A Word Worth Remembering

As you know, I love to focus on words in the scriptures.

I came across a word in scripture recently that made me laugh…

...and then made me stop and think.

The word is holpen.

When’s the last time you used that one?

Yeah—me neither.

A friend recently invited me to read the book of Luke with him before Christmas—24 chapters in 24 days. A simple, meaningful challenge. And tucked inside Luke 1:54 was this old, almost-forgotten word:

“He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy.”

Holpen simply means helped.
Rescued.
Supported.
Saved.

At first, I chuckled.
It sounds funny.

But the longer I’ve sat with it, the more I’ve grown to love it.

Because in my own journey—especially as an entrepreneur in the gospel-themed sock biz—I’ve seen that word play out again and again.

Not always loudly… but sometimes very loud.
Not always dramatically… but sometimes very dramatic.
But always consistently.

I’ve watched people of many different faith backgrounds talk about how God has helped them… steadied them… guided them… holpened them through uncertainty, risk, and growth.

And if God holpened then, I believe He still holpens now—especially when we’re willing to lean into faith and invite Him into the process.

That’s why one of our most meaningful designs at BibleSocks is our “Do Not Fear” socks, inspired by Isaiah 41:10:

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee… I will help thee.”

There it is again.
Help.
Holpen.

For me, faith isn’t something separate from life, family, or business.
It’s the framework.
The compass.
The quiet reassurance that I don’t have to figure everything out on my own.

So yes—it’s a funny word.
But it carries a powerful reminder:

You are not alone on this journey.
