“I Am Doing a New Thing” (Isaiah 43:19)

I just got back from a couple days of business training meetings - learning how to better serve people, grow our crazy sock business, and honestly… just become better in the process.

And one thing really stood out to me.

This group is made up of people from all kinds of different backgrounds, different faith traditions, different life experiences…

But there was one common thread:

A genuine desire to give glory to God.

Not forced.
Not performative.
Just real.

On the second day, one woman shared a scripture that had been on her mind through all of it:

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?”
— Isaiah 43:19

She talked about how this verse reminded her that God is always working.

Even when we don’t fully see it.
Even when it doesn’t make sense yet.
Even when the path ahead feels unclear.

Other Bible translations phrase it this way:

  • “I am doing a new thing… do you not perceive it?”
  • “I have already begun… do you not see it?”

That question hits:

Do you see it?

Because sometimes God is already at work…and we just haven’t recognized it yet.

The rest of the verse says:

“I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

That’s not subtle imagery.

That’s impossible terrain being transformed.

A way where there was no way.
Water where there was nothing but dryness.

And it’s a reminder that God doesn’t just help us along easy paths…

He creates paths where none exist.

That’s what this woman shared so powerfully:

As she puts her faith in God, He begins to do things her mind can’t fully explain.

And isn’t that how it works?

We don’t always see the full picture.

But we take a step anyway.

We trust anyway.

And over time, we start to notice:

He was working all along.

This is the message that shows up again and again in scripture:

  • With God, nothing is impossible
  • Through Christ, we can do all things
  • We are more than conquerors through Him

Different words.

Same truth.

So if you’re in a season right now where things feel uncertain…

Where the path isn’t clear…

Where you’re wondering what God is doing…

Maybe this is the invitation:

Look again.

He may already be doing something new.

Where might God already be at work in your life… even if you don’t fully see it yet?
