One Small Word, One Big Promise
The Lord Is MY Shepherd: One Small Word, One Big Promise
There’s a reason Psalm 23 has been loved for thousands of years.
It’s comforting.
It’s personal.
It’s poetic.
And it reveals something profound about the heart of God.
There are SO many phrases that we could spend literally hours on and so many sermons to digest this amazing Psalm.
But today, I want to slow down and focus on a single word — one that changes everything:
MY.
“The Lord is my Shepherd…” — Psalm 23:1
Not a Shepherd.
Not the Shepherd.
Not their Shepherd.
MY Shepherd.
That little two-letter word is loaded with belonging, relationship, and intimacy.
It’s the difference between admiring God from a distance and walking with Him in closeness.
A Shepherd doesn’t just know “the sheep” as a collective mass.
A Shepherd knows each one — their strengths, their vulnerabilities, their tendencies, their wounds, their habits, and their heart.
And David doesn’t say “The Lord is our Shepherd,” though that’s also true.
He says:
The Lord is MY Shepherd.
There’s something beautiful about taking ownership of your connection with God.
It’s deeply personal. It’s deeply reassuring. And sometimes, it’s the truth we need most in hard seasons.
As you see, on one of our newest (and fastest selling) BibleSocks designs, we decided to focus on that beautiful idea.
He is MY Shepherd...which also makes Him YOURS too!
Never forget that YOU...and YOUR Shepherd, GOT THIS!
