Go Fail (Seriously… Go Fail)
So I’ve been thinking about failure this morning.
I know… great way to start a blogpost, right? 😅
It stemmed from a quote I saw recently:
“Failure is not an option.”
And I don’t know why… but it just didn’t sit right with me.
I mean, it sounds good.
Feels like something you’d see on a gym wall or in a locker room.
But the more I thought about it…
The more I wondered:
What if that’s actually not true?
Let's be honest - nobody likes to fail, right?!?
Especially as we get older.
Because at some point, we start thinking:
“Shouldn’t I have this figured out by now?”
And when we don’t?
That’s when the shame creeps in.
The frustration.
The self-doubt.
The “what’s wrong with me?” thoughts.
Man, I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit.
I was listening to a podcast this week, and they talked about toddlers learning to eat and walk.
Think about it…
They are an absolute mess.
Food everywhere.
Falling over constantly.
Running into walls.
And what do we say to them?
“You’re doing so good! Keep going!”
What if a toddler, after 50 attempts at walking, just said:
“You know what… this walking thing isn’t for me. I’m good with crawling.” 😂
We’d laugh, because we know something they don’t:
Falling is part of the process.
It’s not a sign they’re failing.
It’s a sign they’re learning.
So here’s the thought that hit me on my walk:
What if failure isn’t just an option…
What if it’s THE option?
If you want to grow…
If you want to improve…
If you want to become something more…
You’re going to fail.
A lot.
And that’s not a problem.
That’s the path.
Romans 8 (arguably the BEST chapter in all scripture) teaches something powerful:
We are “more than conquerors” through Him who loved us.
One of our FAVORITE BibleSocks designs!
Notice…
It doesn’t say:
“More than conquerors… because we never mess up.”
It says we conquer through Him.
Who LOVED (and continues to LOVE) us
We fall.
We struggle.
We try again.
And through Christ…
We keep moving forward.
So, maybe failure isn’t something to avoid.
Maybe it’s something to reframe.
Because every time you try and fall short…
You’re actually doing something most people won’t:
You’re growing.
If you’re failing at something right now…
Congratulations.
Seriously.
You’re in the game.
You’re stretching.
You’re learning.
You’re becoming.
And that matters way more than getting it perfect.
As we get older, we tend to play it safe.
We stay in our comfort zones.
We avoid anything that might expose us to failure.
But what if…
That’s the very thing holding us back?
So here’s your invitation for today: GO FAIL!
Try something new.
Step outside your comfort zone.
Take a shot at something that might not work.
And if you fail?
I’ll be the first to say:
You’re doing great. Keep going.
Where in your life might you need to be a little more willing to fail… so you can grow?
God Bless, my friends.
Go fail. 😄
