Working Like It Matters
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."
— Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
Labor Day weekend is here. The unofficial end of summer. The official start of pretending we have it all together again.
Most of us draw a quiet line between sacred work and secular work. Pastors do sacred work. The rest of us do something else and try to feel okay about it.
Paul refused that line.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
Whatever.
The accountant entering invoices. The teacher grading another stack. The contractor pouring a slab. The nurse on a double. The mom managing the third snack of the day. The Uber driver on a Friday night. All of it sacred. All of it offered. All of it visible to the only Boss whose performance review actually matters.
Labor Day is a good weekend to repent of the lie that your work has to be religious to be worship. If you offer it, it is.
A Question to Sit With
If you treated your work this week as worship, what is one thing you would do differently?
