My Gospel-Witnessing Moment… with the FedEx Guy

We got the kindest review the other day that reminded me why we do what we do here at BibleSocks HQ:

“Hey Derek! Just wanted to say thanks for the super-cool socks. Not only are they SO comfortable and quality made, but I love the message that they carry. After a long day of work where I encountered some not-so-fun situations, I took off my shoes and remembered that I had put on my Daniel and the Lions’ Den BibleSocks. The scripture reference right across the ankle (Daniel 6:27) reminded me that ‘He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions’… and He once again rescued me from a rough day and reminded me how good He is! Thanks for that reminder!” – Jon F.

Amen to that.

That review reminded me of another moment — a story from my journal back in 2022 exactly 3 years ago today that some of you might remember. I felt impressed to share it again.

“I have 73 BIG boxes for you…”

I got a text from FedEx saying a shipment of over 15,000 pairs of socks was scheduled for Monday.

On Saturday morning, I get a call from the FedEx driver:

“I’ll be at your home in an hour.”

Gulp.

We scrambled to get ready, and about 11:00 a.m. he pulled up — two days earlier than expected.

He backed his truck up to the garage and said,

“I have 73 BIG boxes for you!… WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU DO, if I may ask?”

I told him, “I run a business where we sell Bible-themed socks that share a gospel message.”

He looked at me sideways and said,

“I’m not too spiritual, but I’m guessing you are?”

Ha — fair guess. 😄

Then he said something that changed the whole tone of the morning:

“Can I ask you a few questions?”

As we unloaded all 73 boxes together, he started asking deep questions of the soul:

  • “How do you know if your religion is the right one for you?”

  • “How do I know if what I’m doing is what God wants me to do?”

  • “This world seems to focus so much on our identities. Is there more to it than that?”

He was basically lobbing me slow, center-of-the-plate pitches. 😅

We ended up having a great conversation about Jesus, identity in Christ, and how God leads us step by step.

After about 30 minutes, I realized I hadn’t even asked his name.

“Angel,” he said.

Of course it was.

Kind of perfect for the guy who just delivered a truckload of BibleSocks, right?

I said, “Angel, would you be OK if I texted you a few scriptures that have helped me answer those exact questions? They’ve given me a lot of clarity and balance in this crazy world and reminded me who I am as a child of God.”

He nodded.

So I sent him a handful of my favorites from the Bible—verses about God’s love, guidance, and grace.

I also asked if he appreciated comfortable socks.

“YES!” he excitedly said.

So I handed him a pair of our Philippians 4:13 BibleSocks. He loved them.

“Thanks, Derek! You’ve given me a lot to think about today.”

I walked back into the house smiling and wrote in my journal: What a fun morning.

That morning with Angel (and Jon’s review) both reminded me of something simple but powerful:

God can use anything to start a conversation about Jesus.

Even socks. Even shipping days. Even surprise early deliveries.

BibleSocks are meant to do exactly that:

  • Quiet reminders when you kick your shoes off after a long day.

  • Conversation starters with co-workers, friends, or even delivery drivers.

  • Little visual nudges that say, “God is here. God is good. God is with you.”

You never know who might need that reminder today — including you.
