A 15-Year-Old, Ping Pong, and Jeremiah 29:11

Well, it’s new design season here at BibleSocks HQ — which means the team is huddled around scriptures, sketchpads, and way too many sock puns, trying to dream up our next faith-filled foot coverings. 🧦✨

One verse we’re especially feeling inspired by?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

This one hit home for me this past weekend.

Quick story: For Christmas, we got a 7-foot combo ping pong/pool table (not full regulation size, but big enough to settle some serious family scores). Early on, I was beating my 15-year-old son, Ben, in about 9 out of 10 games. I grew up playing on a full-size table with my dad, brothers, and brother-in-laws — I had the edge. 😏

But then… something changed.

Ben started practicing. Got a coach. Watched videos. Trained. And before I knew it, he was beating me 9 out of 10. (Rude.)

His coach invited him to play in a local state summer games tournament. We took a quick trip down, and while Ben is confident and always up for a new challenge, he admitted he was nervous. He’d only been playing a few months, and some of the competitors had been training for years. He said he prayed about going — felt good — but was still anxious.

Did he win?

Not exactly. He lost more games than he won.  But he did win the 15 and under Round Robin tournament against some young kids who would have destroyed me on the ping pong table.

He made some good friends and really enjoyed the overall experience.

When it was over, he said:

“Dad — I had a lot of fun. I’m excited to see where I can take this. I’m really glad I went.”

That’s why Jeremiah 29:11 speaks volumes — especially when you’re walking into unfamiliar places, doing hard things, and trusting God with the outcome.

So now the real question: How do we put that feeling on a sock? 😄

We’re working on it. And we’d love your input.
